Oxford Literary Festival

allmanhall is proud to have sponsored the 2018 Oxford Literary Festival alongside globally recognised companies such as the Financial Times, the BBC World Service and HSBC.

The Festival ran from 17-25 March 2018 in various locations across the city, with 450 speakers from 30 countries, who brought their ideas, scholarship and creativity to enrich the lives of everybody who attended.

The allmanhall team visited Oxford over three days when we were entertained and inspired by talks on everything from honey bees to kitchen gadgets! We even learned to make a traditional tiramisu which should never contain coffee or alcohol – who knew?

Key highlights of the Festival were:

Bella Figura: how to live, love and eat like the Italians – when Kamin Mohammedi was made redundant from her job as a top magazine editor in London and suffered total burn-out, she moved to Florence for six weeks to have a break and ten years later she is still there and now married to an Italian. We learnt about living life the Italian way, from savouring proper coffee to choosing the perfect tomato.

Workplace Fables – former Waitrose Managing Director Mark Price has also worked in the current government as Minister for Trade & Investment. Mark highlighted good and bad work practices using examples from a lifetime in business. He was incredibly inspirational in his talk about creating an environment in which staff can thrive and thus improve the business. Lord Price also talked about the impact of technology on the workplace as well as the future of the UK outside the EU.

Edward Hall, Chairman, and Hayden Hibbert, Head of Client Relations, with writer & food blogger Eleanora Galasso.

A Kitchen Conversation: women & food –Eleanora Galasso, an Italian food activist and writer, fed our imaginations with her look at how women have related to food across the centuries and then fed our appetites with a short cooking demonstration of artichokes dressed in lemon and olive oil, a panzanella salad and traditional tiramisu. Delicious!

Hayden Hibbert, Head of Client Relations, and Coleen Fraser, HR Manager, with chef Rick Stein

allmanhall were proud to sponsor one of the key food events of the Festival, Rick Stein: a life in food. Members of the allmanhall team listened to Rick talk about his life in food, his world travels and his fascinating 30-year culinary career putting fish at the heart of everything he does.
